Mountain farming in Hemsedal
In June, people and animals move up into the mountains to spend summer at the mountain pastures.
This old tradition is still alive and thriving, with approx. 40 working dairy farms.
Farms that are not run today are often used as pasture for the animals.
There are approx. 3,000 cattle and calves in the area, most of which are put out to graze for the entire summer. In this way, the pasture fields do not become overgrown and the wonderful landscape is maintained.
Foreign guests must have stayed in Norway for minimum 70 hours / 3 days before visiting a farm / mountain pasture.
